Mark began his business career as a shipbroker, before becoming joint owner of a marine consultancy and ship management company, which was sold to Aminex plc. Following the sale, he ran Aminex’s procurement and oilﬁeld service business, Amossco Ltd. In 2002, he joined HSBC Insurance Brokers as a Business Development Director, eventually becoming Head of Energy, then, Head of Africa, before HSBC sold its insurance subsidiary in March 2010.
Mark then established Samphire & Associates Ltd, a consultancy and advisory services business focused on African related businesses. He served on the board of a range of companies including Britain Nigeria Business Council (2007 to 2009), the Business Council for Africa (2009 to 2015), Resolution Insurance (2014 to 2015), Phoenix Africa Development Co Ltd (2010 to 2019) and Leon Africa (2012 to 2016). Mark has also been a mentor for the Women-Led Business Programme run by Femmes Africa Solidarité. Since 2016, Mark has been on the advisory board of Moshe Capital, a South African Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment woman owned advisory and investment firm, with whom VSA Capital has formed a strategic alliance. Mark holds the FCA Controlled Function CF30.
Andrew has over 30 years’ experience in the City, working at Hoare Govett ABN AMRO for 11 years, before founding Oriel Securities (with the backing of the Vitol Group) and then becoming CEO of Blue Oar Plc
During this time, he has built up strong relationships with many major institutional investors in London and Asia
Andrew acquired VSA Capital in 2010 and has repositioned VSA as a leading investment bank for growth companies, alongside having a unique focus on taking western companies to China
Andrew has over 30 years’ experience in equity capital markets having previously worked at Barclays de Zoete Wedd, Albert E Sharp Securities, Arthur Andersen, Ernst & Young, Arden Partners, Libertas Capital, Blue Oar Securities and Shore Capital
Since joining VSA, he has headed the corporate finance team overseeing the team’s equity capital markets activities, including the US$125m private placement in New Age (African Global Energy)
Andy has over 10 years’ experience as a project consultant to small and growing public companies. He has wide sector experience and a strong understanding of corporate governance in quoted companies and Regulatory environments. In 2018, Andy founded VFund (Jersey), an alternative investment fund specializing in Scotch whisky investment. VFund is regulated by the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC). In addition, VFund has set up a private whisky experience centre in the City of London. Over the years, Andy has introduced a number of cross-border investments from Asia to the UK. He has worked as a financial analyst for IBM UK in his early career, and is currently a director of several companies. Andy gained a master’s degree in Management with Marketing at the University of Bath.
Simon qualified as a chartered accountant in 1990 and worked in senior Corporate Finance roles at Warburgs and KPMG doing domestic and international buy/sell side M&A, joint ventures and a variety of exits including trade sales, public takeovers and flotations. He has also worked as CFO of a number of businesses (both privately backed and quoted) requiring M&A expertise, including successfully managing two ‘buy and build’ ventures.
Maciek has more than 20 years of experience in deals, investment and economic research and analysis, and strategy development across Sub-Saharan Africa, having travelled and worked in 21 countries in the region. Prior to joining VSA Capital in London, Maciek worked at Mazars Corporate Finance, Bowden Corporate Finance, EY M&A Lead Advisory, African Alliance, KPMG and Rand Mutual Assurance, based in Johannesburg. His areas of interest include M&A, capital raising, capital markets and entrepreneur development.
James has five years’ M&A and equity capital markets experience, having previously worked at Fairfax I.S., a London based boutique investment bank, where he was involved in the management buyout of WorkPlace Systems
Since joining VSA in 2014, he has worked on multiple transactions across the alternative energy, industrials, natural resources and TMT sectors, including the acquisition of Promethean World for £84m
Pascal has one year’s experience in the finance industry, having previously completed a three month internship at Deutsche Bank/norisbank, followed by a second six month internship at MAYLAND AG, a boutique investment bank focused on the renewable energy sector.

Phil specialises in technology and alternative energy. He was formerly a technology professional employed in engineering, marketing and operational roles within the semiconductor divisions of Texas Instruments Inc. and Philips.
Paul has over 30 years’ experience in the natural resources sector, having previously worked in-field in geologic exploration for precious metals, base metals and industrial minerals, for the City of Reno Planning Department and Hemscott
Paul joined the VSA Research team in 2006 and provides our clients with in depth analysis on the global mining activity
Sam joined VSA Capital in 2019 to focus on cross-sector financial analysis.
Previously he worked in commercial real estate where he qualified as a Chartered Surveyor and is currently undertaking the Chartered Financial Analyst Program.

Jason has 10 years’ experience in debt and capital markets, having previously worked at Springer River Asset Management and Windsor Investment Funds, where he focused on fixed income products

John started his career in the City in 1987 as Blue Button at Sheppards & Chase Options. He then joined Monument Derivates as a Broker on The LIFFE Market Executing Single Stock and FTSE Options before moving on to HSBC in 1999 when the Options Market became Screen Based. In 2006 John joined Lewis Charles Securities, where he was an Equity and Fixed Income Broker.

Michael Stannard has recently joined VSA as a Senior Asset Manager. Michael began a successful career trading metals on the LME back in 1974 and later gained experience in the international financial markets trading multi-currency fixed income secondary bonds of various asset classes. Directly before joining VSA Michael spent 25 years broking the primary fixed income market.
Domenico, a graduate in Financial Economics, embarked upon a successful career in the IDB (Inter-dealer Broker) Fixed Income sector. Holding senior positions at both Prebon Marshall Yamane and Tradition.
With over 26 years’ City experience, Dom joins VSA Capital as a Senior Asset Manager, bringing both his strong Institutional relationships and expertise. He will play a crucial role in shaping new business and ensuring VSA Capital thrives and remains at the forefront of Fixed Income OTC markets.
Mining Fund Management
Alison has over 15 years’ experience in strategy consulting and corporate finance, having started her career in South Africa where she spent time at BHP Billiton followed by eight years as a sell side mining analyst covering a range of mining companies from micro-cap through to FTSE 100
Since joining VSA in 2017, she focuses on analysing mining companies and evaluating mining projects, with a particular focus on precious metals and diamonds in Africa
Finance and Compliance
Brendan started his career at KPMG South Africa in Industrial and Automotive Audit and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2007. Thereafter, he relocated to the London. Since arriving in the United Kingdom, Brendan has worked in senior roles in both Finance/Risk for FTSE listed majors within both energy and financial services sectors specialising in business performance, risk analysis and control.
Brendan joined the VSA Management Team in 2017 as Chief Financial Officer with responsibility for Finance, Human Resources, Risk and Compliance.
Mr. Zheng has a broad range of finance and investment experiences and an international business background. He commenced his career working for a boutique hedge fund in New York. Later he progressed to become investment manager at Cambridge Hanover, a real estate private equity firm in Connecticut, US. He underwrote over 100 deals and closed over 50 million USD in two years, and generating over 20% IRR for equity investors.
Subsequently he returned to China and served as the executive director of Shanghai Feizhou Group, overseeing the investment and financing of commercial real estate and tourism assets.
Mr. Zheng graduated as a Cum Laude Honors Scholar with a B.S. degree in Finance and Accounting from New York University, Leonard N. Stern School of Business and a M.S. degree in Hospitality Industry Studies from New York University, Tisch Center for Hospitality and Tourism. He served as the President of Stern Real Estate Club.
Ian Lin has a broad range of knowledge/experiences in terms of equity investment/financing and domestic/cross-border M&A. Previously working at UBS Securities, Bohai Industrial Fund, Shanghai Electric and Dealglobe, Ian has closed or participated in more than 20 transactions which includes the industries of high-end manufacturing, consumer, TMT and healthcare, with a aggregate amount of more than $2 billion.
Ian graduated from the Department of Mathematics of Fudan University and is a holder of CFA and FRM. He has considerable experience in corporate investment and financing, mergers and acquisitions, valuation models and investment documentation negotiations.
Tracy Zhang is a senior manager of VSA Capital in Shanghai. Before joining VSA, she was engaged in the investment and acquisition business in the investment department of a large energy state-owned enterprise. Up to now, she has participated in the analysis and about 70 projects. The targets include Rosneft Oil, Galp Energia and Uzbekistan LNG covering energy and chemical industry, new energy, block chain, medical treatment. Her main responsibilities are to conduct industry analysis, company financial analysis, establish valuation models, conduct preliminary business negotiations and implement post-investment management.
Previously, Tracy served in Guotai Junan Futures and a major U.S. manufacturing company, with qualifications of Securities association, fund association and futures association.

John Zhou serves as a Senior Manager in VSA Capital. He has participated in several domestic and cross-border M&A transactions and also in secondary market investment. Working in a buyside team, he has participated in the full investment decision of two deals. He has experiences in deal sourcing, valuation, and financing structure designing.
He formerly worked in investment team in a mining company listed on Shanghai Stock Exchange. He focused on oversea investment opportunities in both traditional and electric vehicles metals. Being responsible for BD and investment in southern Africa, he was deployed to Johannesburg for a short term. Previously, he worked in internal audit for real estate and agriculture companies.

Vivian Gao, executive assistant, is mainly responsible for administrative jobs for VSA Capital Shanghai Office. She supports human resources and financial jobs for the team as well. She also serves as the executive director assistant of Shanghai Feizhou Group, a well-known financial, cultural tourism and commercial real estate group located in Xujiahui, Shanghai.
Before joining VSA, she works as an account executive assistant at a well-known global advertising company(Ogilvy).
